Now, the usual crop of rally cars consists of Fiat Pandas, Nissan Micras, Ford Fiestas etc, however we decided early on that we would love to follow in the dusty tyre tracks of 3 of last year’s teams and take an ambulance. This would enable us not only to all fit in the same vehicle, but, all being well would allow us to make a significant donation at the end of the trip to the hospitals of Ulaan Bataar.
South Central Ambulance Service NHS Trust listened to our plans and agreed to support our causes. Amazingly, they have not only donated our ambulance, but also a heap of spare parts which we plan to give to the hospital in Ulaan Bataar. We checked it out recently at their workshop where it has been given a full check and we can’t wait for the official handover in the coming weeks.
We will need to make a certain number of modifications to our ambulance to make it ready for the long road ahead, however the most important thing to us is that it can still be used as an ambulance at the other end. We’re currently planning the following changes:
Improved undercarriage protection
Roof rack for carrying spare tyres etc
Extra headlamps for night driving
Graphics detailing our trip, our charities and our sponsors
If you have any spare parts or suggestions relating to our vehicle, please get in touch. Stay tuned for further updates on the preparation of our ambulance as we go!
